Kit

Product UI / Dashboard

Dense, data-heavy interfaces where restraint is the whole discipline.

For the interfaces people use every day rather than visit once. Ten skills, and the whole kit is organized around a single idea: in a product UI, restraint is not a style preference, it’s the functional requirement. A flourish that delights on first encounter becomes a tax on the four-hundredth.

That’s why the motion phase is named for its constraint rather than its capability, and why the frequency gate does the most work of anything in this kit. It’s also why the signature-moment skills from the marketing kit are absent entirely — not a value judgment, just the wrong tool for a surface someone stares at for six hours.

The React phase is conditional and clearly marked. Skip it if you’re not on React; nothing else in the kit depends on it. The pre-ship phase leads with accessibility rather than ending with it, because custom widgets — the comboboxes, the virtualized tables, the command palettes — are where dense product UI reliably fails, and finding that out after everything is built is the expensive version.

01 · Build

Frontend Design

Even a systems-driven UI needs a point of view; without one you get defaults wearing a design system's clothes.

Make Interfaces Feel Better

Tabular numbers, concentric radii, and press feedback are what make a data table feel engineered.

A live consult for the hundred small calls a dashboard demands, with a review format that ends arguments.

02 · Motion, restrained

Design Motion Principles

Its frequency gate is the right tool here: a control used hundreds of times a day should not animate at all.

Improve Animations

Audits existing motion and catches the transitions that quietly cost a power user time.

03 · If you're on React

04 · Pre-ship

Better Accessibility

Custom widgets, modals, and keyboard paths are where dense product UI actually fails an audit.

Better Writing

Labels, errors, and empty states carry more weight per word in product UI than anywhere else.

Thumb-First

Dashboards get opened on phones whether or not they were designed for it.
